James Corden brings Beatrix Potter’s hero to life in his big-screen debut
Peter Rabbit, the mischievous and adventurous Beatrix Potter creation, has now become the star of his own contemporary comedy movie.
Hitting cinemas early next year, the film appears poised to bring to the big screen the same adorable heroics that have captivated readers for generations.
The forthcoming film, one that seamlessly blends animation and live-action, finds Peter coming to life through the enthusiastic tones of James Corden, as the rabbit takes his ongoing feud with Mr. McGregor (played by Domhnall Gleeson) to greater heights than ever before.
Mr. McGregor, while continuing to watch over his vegetable patch, finds his anti-animal stance questioned when he sparks up a romance with Bea (Rose Byrne), who happens to love the animals Mr. McGregor often rallies against.
Meanwhile, Corden is surrounded by an all-star cast of voiceover actors, including Margot Robbie as Flopsy, Elizabeth Debicki as Mopsy, and Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley as Cottontail. Pop star Sia, last heard in My Little Pony: The Movie, is also involved.
Peter Rabbit stems from director Will Gluck, best known for Easy A and the 2014 Annie remake, who said: “In making this film, we’ve always felt as humble custodians entrusted with Peter’s legacy.
“My parents introduced Peter to me, and I in turn introduced him to my own children – and it’s my great honour to be directing a film that will bring him to cinemas everywhere.”
James Corden added, “Every British child falls in love with Peter Rabbit sooner or later. I hope that a new generation will see this film and rediscover the incredible books and storytelling of Beatrix Potter and fall in love with the character as I did.”
